You have either selected your granite countertop after careful thought or were fortunate to purchase a home that already has one – so treat it with respect!
Contrary to popular belief, it is not indestructible. You should never use this surface as a cutting board. Knives will scratch the stone and leave permanent scars. Always use a protective surface, such as a cutting board, to cut food on. This will prevent an irreversible mistake.
Also, do not place extremely hot pots and pans directly on the granite countertop as well. This may crack or fracture the stone – which again, cannot be repaired.
